Hokie ClubCHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia Tech swimming and diving men’s squad is ahead of the Wisconsin Badgers on day one of the University of Virginia’s tri-meet Friday night at the Aquatic Fitness Center. The Tech men lead the Badgers, 86-45, while trailing the Cavaliers, 51-80. The H2Okie women trail Virginia, 52-81, and Wisconsin, 53-78.
The night began with the Tech women dominating in the women’s 1-meter event. Sophomore Kaylea Arnett racked in a total of 296.95 to take home the gold, while senior Logan Kline came in second by just .50 points, taking a score of 296.45.
Senior Logan Shinholser took second place on the men’s 3-meter board, tallying 401.60. Virginia took the event with a score of 420.65. Tech’s Ryan Hawkins placed second with a score of 394.80.
Leading the H2Okie women are freshman Weronika Paluszek and senior Heather Savage. Paluszek took the first individual swimming event for Tech as she touched the wall at the 2:16.09 mark of the 200 breaststroke.
Savage later took the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:58.27 to close the night for the H2Okie women.
On the men’s side, sophomore Morgan Latimer was the lone H2Okie to win an individual event. Latimer touched the wall at the 1:47.13 mark to take home the gold. Tech’s 400 freestyle relay event racked in points, winning the event with a time of 2:59.47.
Competition starts back up with a morning session at 9 a.m. tomorrow, followed by an evening session beginning at 3 p.m. For live results click here.
