Men's Tennis hosts No. 43 VCU

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The No. 63 Virginia Tech men’s tennis team will host No. 43 VCU on Tuesday, April 3 in a non-conference midweek match. Match time is slated for 1 p.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.

Tech (8-8) is coming off a pair of ACC wins over the weekend. The Hokies defeated No. 33 NC State, 5-2 and followed that up with a 4-3 win against Wake Forest. Tech senior Corrado Degl’ Incerti Tocci had match deciding points in both wins for the Hokies.

The Hokies Luka Somen holds a 23-10 overall record this season and is 9-6 in the No. 1 in duals. The senior is currently 119th in the latest ITA standings. Junior Lucas Oliveira is ranked No. 123 and has posted a 14-15 record this season. Somen is also ranked in doubles with partner Tocci at 46th. The duo has a 19-11 overall record this season.

Junior Trpimir Kujundzic is 22-13, including 9-6 record in duals while Tocci is 12-12 and 8-7 in duals. Senior Patrick Daciek is 6-7 in the No. 3 singles and posted a big win over the weekend, securing the third point and tying the match between the Hokies and the Deacs.

The Rams (16-4) defeated James Madison, 7-0 the last time out. Leading VCU is Alexis Heugas with a No. 74 ranking in the ITA singles. He and doubles partner, Antoine Baroz are 65th in the ITA. Heugas is 20-7 in singles this season.

Tech will conclude its regular season road schedule following Tuesday’s match. The Hokies will travel to Georgia Tech on Friday and Clemson on Saturday.
