• Sunday marks fifth-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth overall for the Hokies
• The Hoyas enter Sunday with an overall record of 15-3-3
• Georgetown is coming off a 1-0 loss to Marquette in the BIG EAST Championship
• The Hoyas have outscored its opponents, 46-13
• Daphne Corboz leads Georgetown with 17 goals, seven assists, 88 shots and 47 on goal
• Emma Newins has played all 21 games in goal for the Hoyas and has a 12-3-3 record and 72 saves
THE SERIES
• This marks the third meeting between the two teams and Georgetown leads 2-0
• The series dates back to 2001 where the Hoyas defeated the Hokies 3-0 in Washington, D.C.
• The last meeting on Oct. 16, 2003, Virginia Tech fell to Georgetown, 1-0
NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• This marks the sixth overall bid to the NCAA Tournament, including Tech’s fifth-straight season
• The Hokies are 4-5 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and advanced all the way to the Sweet 16 in 2009 and 2011
• The 2009 appearance also earned the Hokies their first-ever Tournament victories
• Last season the Hokies defeated West Virginia in the first round before cruising past Texas A&M
• The Hokies’ run was halted with a 4-0 loss to the Virginia Cavaliers in the Sweet 16
LAST TIME OUT
• The Hokies closed the regular season with a 3-0 win over No. 7 Wake Forest on Oct. 24
• Katie Yensen, Ashley Manning and Jazmine Reeves all connected on goals
• The win marked the fifth-straight season the Hokies have upset a top-10 team unranked
• Virginia Tech outshot the Demon Deacons 12-8 and took the 5-2 corner kick advantage
• Dayle Colpitts recorded the shutout for the Hokies and improved to 8-5-1 on the season and picked up two saves
HOKIES MISS ACC TOURNAMENT
• This is the first time in five years the Hokies did not make it to the ACC Tournament
• Virginia Tech finished tied for eighth place with Miami
• The Hurricanes won the tie breaker as they defeated Florida State in their final regular season match
MEIER RACKS IN POST SEASON HONORS
• Freshman Ashley Meier was named to the 2012 All-ACC Second Team and All-Freshman Team as announced by the conference office last Thursday
• This was just the second time a freshman earned all-freshman and second team honors for the Hokies since Tech joined the ACC in 2004
MITCHELL COLLECTS NATIONAL WEEKLY HONORS
• Senior Kelsey Mitchell was named one of the 13 Primetime Performers of the Week on Oct. 31 for her efforts against Wake Forest
• The Longwood, Fla., native was also named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Week the day before for the second time this season
