Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG – Saturday’s football contest between Virginia Tech and Bowling Green will be Military Appreciation Day. The football team will wear camouflage helmets and a special jersey with camouflage numbers, and the Marching Virginians and Highty-Tighties will hold a special patriotic halftime performance.
Prior to the game Saturday and as part of the Highty-Tighty pregame show, Medal of Honor recipient, Col. Wes Fox, will be recognized, and Lt. Col. Mike Miller will recite the Hokies Respect creed.
In addition, Cadet Capt. Kyle Cawthon, a senior in the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets, will run out of the tunnel with the Hokies carrying a commemorative flag in honor of Virginia Tech Police Officer Deriek Crouse. Officer Crouse, whose badge number was 152, was killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop on the Virginia Tech campus last December. Officer Crouse was also a proud member of the United Stares Army and an Iraqi War veteran.
A WWII B-25 is set to fly over Lane Stadium following the national anthem and a P-51 Mustang is set to fly over following the halftime performance. The Hokies and Falcons are set to kickoff at noon.
