Johnson Wagner named PGA Tour Player of the Month for January

Virginia Techgraduate and former Tech golfer Johnson Wagner has been selected the PGA TourPlayer of the Month, presented by Avis, for the month of January.

Wagner won the Sony Open on Jan. 15,marking his third career PGA Tour victory. Also, he finished tied for ninth atthe season-opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions and he tied for second atthe Humana Challenge on Jan. 22.

He was nominated in January along withSteve Stricker, Mark Wilson and Brandt Snedeker. Wagner won the award in anon-line vote on PGATour.com.

With the award, Avis will present acheck for $50,000 to be distributed to charity. Wagner has announced he will donatehalf the award money to the First Tee Foundation and the other half to theLevine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, N.C.
