Former Virginia Tech quarterbackBruce Arians decided to retire from coaching after a long and successful careerat many different stops.
Arians, who played at Tech from1972-74, most recently served as the offensive coordinator for the PittsburghSteelers – a job he had held since 2007 when current Pittsburgh coach MikeTomlin took over as the head coach. Arians had served as the receivers coachfor the Steelers from 2004-06. During his time with the Steelers, he was a partof two Super Bowl-winning teams (2005 and 2008).
Arians also spent time with theCleveland Browns and with the Indianapolis Colts. In 2001-03, he served as theBrowns offensive coordinator, while in 1998-2000, he worked as the Coltsquarterbacks coach.
His first work as an NFL assistantcame in 1989 when he was named the Kansas City Chiefs running backs coach.Prior to that, he worked at three different colleges – Mississippi State(running backs and receivers coach, 1978-80), Alabama (running backs coach,1981-82) and Temple (head coach, 1983-88). Temple went 21-45 during his tenure.
For his career, he has worked forfive NFL teams and three colleges, including twice working at both MississippiState (1978-80 and 1993-95) and Alabama (1981-82 and 1997).
After he graduated from Tech, heworked as a graduate assistant for two years.
