Chalkley advances to State Amateur quarterfinals

Virginia Tech golfer Bryce Chalkleydefeated teammate Garland Green on Thursday afternoon and advanced to thequarterfinals of Virginia State Golf AssociationAmateur Championship being conducted at The Virginian Golf Club thisweek. 

 

Chalkley, as rising sophomore fromRichmond, Virginia, defeated Green, 2 and 1. Chalkley made seven birdies in thevictory. Green, from Tazewell, Virginia, recently completed his collegiatecareer. A third Tech golfer advanced out of stroke play into match play onThursday. Mikey Moyers, a rising junior from Stanardsville, Virginia, fell tothree-time defending champion Brinson Paolini, 4 and 2. Paolini was defeated inthe round of 16.

 

Chalkley opened the day with a 3 and2 win over Patrick Scheil and Green defeated Roger Newsom, 3and 2 to force the match-up.

 

Chalkley will face another Tazewellgolfer in the quarterfinal on Friday, as he will play Buck Brittian in thefirst action of the morning at 8 a.m. The winner of that match will play thewinner of the Weston Eklund/Ji Soo Park in Friday afternoon’s first semifinalmatch. The 36-hole final match will be played Saturday.
