Emala earns ACC weekly honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior attack Allie Emala was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday after leading the charge for the Hokies in their win over No. 16 Boston College, 12-11, to earn the team its second-ever conference victory. Duke’s goalkeeper, Mollie Mackler was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week after setting a new career high with 15 saves against Georgetown over the weekend.

Emala paced Tech with three goals and two assists against the Eagles in both teams’ conference opener. The Baltimore, Md., native was also a perfect 3-for-3 on the day, putting away every shot she took, as the Hokies claimed just their fourth-ever victory over a ranked opponent and first win over a ranked conference opponent since the 2001 season.

Earlier in the week, Emala again led the team in points as she scored two goals and assisted two more in the tough loss at American. She currently leads the team in points, with 31, as well as draw controls (26). Emala also ranks second on the team with 20 goals so far this season.

The Hokies return to action again Wednesday, March 16 as they continue conference play and travel to Duke for a 6 p.m. game with the No. 3 Blue Devils.
