Hokies, Yellow Jackets to meet in ACC First Round


BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech women’s basketball team will face Georgia Tech Thursday at 11 a.m. in the opening round of the 34tj ACC Women’s Basketball Championship. The event is being held at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.

Tech (11-18, 1-13) enters the tournament as the No. 12 seed, while the Yellow Jackets are the No. 5 seed. The Hokies concluded the regular season on Sunday with a, 73-71, overtime loss to Virginia.

Georgia Tech (21-9, 9-5) lost, 7059, at home to Miami Sunday afternoon. Georgia Tech defeated Virginia Tech, 78-57, on Jan. 27, in Cassell Coliseum.

The winner of the Virginia Tech-Georgia Tech game will face fourth seed No. 15/17 Maryland, Friday at 11 a.m. in the quarterfinals. The VT-GT game will be televised by the Regional Sports Network.

This will be the first meeting between the Hokies and the Yellow Jackets in the ACC tournament. The series between the two programs is tied, 4-4, with Virginia Tech winning the first four meeting and Georgia Tech taking the last four.
