Women's tennis wraps second day of Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Courtney Rauscher picked up a win in singles for the Virginia Tech women’s tennis team on Saturday during the second day of the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Rauscher claimed a straight-set 6-3, 7-5 decision over Alex Smyth of Richmond in the C flight singles. The Hokies’ player will face Elon’s Frida Jansacker on Sunday.

Tech’s Shannon Betts faced Davidson’s Stephani Synn in the A flight where the two battled to three sets. Synn took the first set, 6-2, but Betts came back in the second for a 6-2 win. The Davidson player held off Betts in the third set for a 6-2 win to claim the match.

Betts will play Alex Whitehead of UNCG in the consolation bracket.

Rauscher and Betts teamed up in the doubles B flight, falling to VCU’s Daria Yakavleva and Olga Terteac, 8-3 in the semifinasls.

The Hokies’ duo will face Winthrop’s Sandra Herrera and Giovanna Portioli in the B flight’s third place match.

The final day of the Wake Forest Invitational will begin Sunday at 9 a.m.
