CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Tech student-athletes Allie Emala and Jessica Nonn have been named to the second team of the 2010 All-State Women’s Lacrosse Team, as selected by the Virginia Sports Information Directors’ Association (VaSID). Both players were honored earlier in the week by the Atlantic Coast Conference as part of this year's All-ACC Academic team.
Nonn, a sophomore midfielder from Catonsville, Md., led the Hokies in scoring and groundballs in 2010 with 36 and 45, respectively. She also scored in all 17 games for Virginia Tech this past season.
Emala, a junior attacker from Balitmore, Md., was second on the team in scoring with 32 goals and led the Hokies in points (47), assists (15) and draw controls(91). She was in the top five in almost all categories for Virginia Tech in the 2010 season and set a new career draw controls record for Tech with 188 over her previous three seasons.
Both Emala and Nonn started all 17 games for the Hokies in 2010. Tech finished the season 6-11 overall, with six of the 11 losses coming to nationally-ranked teams.
In all, 24 players were honored by VaSID. Virginia’s Brittany Kalkstein earned Player of the Year honors, while JMU took both the Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year honors in Casey Ancarrow and Shelly Klaes-Bawcombe, respectively.
