Three former Virginia Techgolfers will tee it up for the inaugural Greenbrier Classic. The event, in itsfirst year on the PGA Tour, will be played July 29 through August 1 at the Old White Course, at the Greenbrier Resort in White SulphurSprings, West Virginia.
PGA Tour regulars Brendon de Jongeand Johnson Wagner will be joined in the event by 2009 Tech graduate DrewWeaver. Weaver, who plays on selected mini-tours, is no stranger to big-timeevents, as he played in the 2007 British Open and the 2008 Masters Tournamentas a result of winning the 2007 British Amateur Championship at Royal Lytham& St. Annes in Lancashire, England. Weaver has also played in the AT&TNational and Wyndham Championships.
Wagner, who won the 2008 ShellHouston Open, is 157th in the FedEx Cup points and de Jonge, who ledin the early rounds of the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach, is 37th inFedEx Cup points and has earned more than $1.2 million in winnings this season.
The Greenbrier Classic, with a total purse of$8 million, is the highest-paying event remaining on the 2010 PGA Tourschedule.
