Green falls in semis of State Amateur

VirginiaTech golfer Garland Green lost 4 and 2 to two-time defending championBrinson Paolini of Virginia Beach in the 97thVSGA Amateur Championship at 6,940 yards par 72 Belle Haven CountryClub in Alexandria on Friday afternoon.

Green,a rising senior from Tazewell, was four holes down at the turn, butwon three of the first four holes of the back nine. Paolini, a risingsophomore at Duke, then won the next three holes to claim the 4 and 2victory. He will play Mike Kirby of Falls Church in a 36 hole finalon Saturday morning.
