Delaney withdraws from NBA Draft

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech guard Malcolm Delaney has decided to withdraw his name from the 2010 NBA Draft. Delaney did not hire an agent and therefore is eligible to return to the Hokies next season.

“I have decided to come back to Virginia Tech for my senior season,” Delaney said. “I learned that I would not have been a first round pick and I want to work hard to become a better basketball player. I am coming back because I have the opportunity to earn my degree at the end of the first semester and, I want to, along with my fellow seniors, help lead Virginia Tech to a Final Four.

Delaney, a junior from Baltimore, Md., led the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring in 2010 and was a unanimous selection to the All-ACC first team. He was selected as a fourth team All-American by Sporting News and an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press. He was also named to the all-district teams by the NABC and the USBWA.

“I have no doubt Malcolm has the ability to be a contributing player in the NBA,” head coach Seth Greenberg said. “I am ecstatic that Malcolm has decided to return to Virginia Tech and help us as we pursue an ACC Championship, an NCAA berth and an opportunity to compete deep into the tournament. He has been a huge part of the continued renaissance of our basketball program. Having him return, along with his fellow seniors, gives us an opportunity to be one of the elite teams in the best conference in all of college basketball.”

Underclassmen that declare for the NBA Draft who do not sign with an agent had until May 8th to remove their names from the draft and retain their college eligibility.
