BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The Virginia Tech golf team heads to Augusta, Ga., to begin play in the Administaff/Augusta State Invitational, on April 3-4 at the par 72, 7,231-yard Forest Hills Golf Club.
Freshman Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.), coming off three straight top-20 finishes for the Hokies in the spring portion of the schedule, will play out of the first position for Tech. Moyers recorded his best-ever collegiate effort with a second place finish at Pinehurst.
Junior Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) and sophomore Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Tex.) will play from the second and third positions for the Hokies, respectively. Both players have appeared in all events for Tech this season. Freshman Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) moves into the starting line-up in the fourth position for the Augusta State event, having played primarily as an individual this season. Junior Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) will round out the starting five for the Hokies.
This marks the tournament’s 32nd year and the second year of the event since its return to historic Forest Hills Golf Club, following a three-year stint at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Evans, Ga., from 2006-2008. The 18-team event features an outstanding field, led by five teams ranked in the top 20 of the Golfweek/Sagarin poll. Host and defending champion Augusta State is ranked third nationally and Illinois is ranked eighth. In all, half of the field is ranked in the top 50 nationally. Virginia Tech, ranked 56th nationally, is one of three ACC teams in the tournament.
Saturday will feature 36 holes of play, followed by the final round on Sunday. The Hokies finished ninth in last year’s event. Live scoring will be available on Hokiesports.com.
