GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Virginia Tech starting guards Malcolm Delaney and Dorenzo Hudson have been named to 2010 All-ACC teams, as selected by members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association on Monday.
Delaney, a junior from Baltimore, Md., was a unanimous selection to the conference’s first team. The ACC’s regular season leading scorer, Delaney becomes the second Hokie ever named to the league’s first team and the first Virginia Tech player to be a unanimous selection. He was named on all 53 ballots received by the organization and received 159 points. He is joined on the first team by Greivis Vasquez of Maryland, Jon Scheyer and Kyle Singler of Duke and Trevor Booker of Clemson. Vasquez and Scheyer were also unanimous selections.
Delaney led the Hokies in scoring and topped the ACC with 16 games of 20-or-more points this season. He also led the ACC in minutes played and is the first Virginia Tech player to lead the ACC in scoring since Tech entered the league in the 2004-05 season. He was a third team selection last season as a sophomore.
Hudson, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., was selected to the All-ACC’s third team. Statisically the most improved scorer in the ACC this season, Hudson was the Hokies’ second leading scorer and finished seventh in scoring in league games. This is his first selection to a conference post-season team and received 51 votes.
Hudson’s 41 points in the Hokies’ win over Seton Hall is tied for the most points scored by an ACC player this season. He was fifth in the league in minutes played and was among the league leaders in free throw percentage. He was named the ACC Player of the Week for the week ending January 3, 2010.
The Hokies open play in the 2010 ACC Tournament on Friday afternoon. Tech, the tournament’s fourth seed, received a bye in the first round and will play the winner of Thursday’s #5 Wake Forest vs. #12 Miami game at 2 p.m. on Friday in the Greensboro Coliseum.
