Delaney on Lowe's Senior CLASS list

OVERLAND PARK, Kans. – Virginia Tech guard Malcolm Delaney has been named to the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award candidates list. The list is comprised of 30 senior male student-athletes who have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. There is also a women’s division.

The Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Delaney is one of two ACC players on the 30 man list, along with Duke senior Kyle Singler.

Delaney, a senior from Balitmore, Maryland, led the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring as a junior during the 2009-10 season. He recorded 28 games of double-figure scoring last season, including 19 games of at least 20 points and five games of 30-or-more points. He led the Hokies in scoring in each of the last two seasons and is currently 14th in career scoring at Virginia Tech and fifth in career assists at the school. He is also the career leader in free throw percentage at Tech.

Delaney was a unanimous first team All-ACC selection as a junior and was named a fourth-team All-American by Sporting News. His 667 points scored last season is the seventh-best single-season scoring total in Virginia Tech history. Delaney is on track to graduate in May with a degree in apparel, housing, resource management/consumer studies.

Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the men’s basketball Senior CLASS Award® winner at the NCAA Men’s Final Four® in Houston and the women’s basketball Senior CLASS Award winner at the NCAA Women’s Final Four® in Indianapolis.

The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 men’s and 10 women’s finalists midway through the regular season, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one finalist that best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
