Larryqua "Reka" Hall signs with Tech women's basketball

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced Thursday the signing of women's basketball player Larryqua “Reka” Hall to a national letter of intent for the 2011-2012 academic year.

“We are very excited to announce that Reka is joining the Hokie family,” said Virginia Tech head coach Beth Dunkenberger. “On the offensive end, she’s a slasher with an explosive first step that helps her get to the basket and finish. Reka is more than just an unbelievable athlete, and I think it’s her heart and the spirit she plays with on defense that makes her truly special.”

Hall, a 5-10, guard, from Powder Springs, Ga., averaged 12.4 points and 7.0 rebounds last season at Hillgrove High School for coach Sherry Fowler, where she was a First team All-Region 7 AAAA selection. She has scored 1,035 career points to become only the second player, and the first junior, in Hillgrove High history to reach the milestone. As a sophomore, Hall was a Marietta Journal All-Cobb County selection and was an All-Region 7 AAAA member averaging 16.3 points and 3.4 rebounds.

Virginia Tech will open the 2010-11 season against Presbyterian College at home on Fri., Nov. 12 at 5:30 p.m.
