TULSA, Okla. - Virginia Tech concluded play on Tuesday in the qualifying doubles of the 2010 D’Novo/ITA Men’s Tennis All-American Championships. The University of Tulsa is hosting the tournament for the fourth-straight year and for the sixth year overall at the Case Tennis Center on the TU campus.
In the qualifying doubles competition, Will Beck (Sr., Potomac, Md.)/Patrick Daciek (Jr., Severna Park, Md.) defeated Adrian Forberg-Skogeng/Kalle Nordberg (Mississippi), 8-4, in their afternoon match, before being elliminated, 8-5, by the 25th-ranked duo of Kyle McMorrow-Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan (Washington). Tech’s other team of Corrado Degl’ Incert Tocci (Jr., Reggio Emilia, Italy)/Luka Somen (Jr., Karlovac, Croatia) were eliminated, 8-6, by Austen Childs/Viktor Maksimcuk (Louisville).
Earlier in the day, Somen, ranked No. 52 nationally, dropped his qualifying consolation match, 6-3, 6-2, against Jason Smith (Sacramento State) and Tocci, ranked No. 109 nationally, lost a three-set contest, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, against Matt Hogan (Arkansas).
The Hokies will return to action, Oct. 20-24, when several members of the team will participate in the ITA Atlantic Regionals in Charlottesville, Va.
