Danny Coale, a redshirt junior from Lexington, Va., earned nomination to the 2010 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. He is one of 112 student-athletes across the nation at all levels of college football up for the final 22-player team, which will be announced in late September.
Coale, who finished second on the team in receptions a season ago, participated in the Blacksburg High School Thanksgiving Basket Give-A-Way last fall. The students at BHS collected food and donated it to families in need. Coale was one of the keynote speakers at a school assembly celebrating the collection of the food.
Coale also participates in the College Orientation Workshop, a 4-week program conducted at The Virginia Military Institute which is designed to motivate promising minority male students to better prepare for and attain success in high school and college. The program is run by Coale's father, Jimmy, the head of physical education at VMI, and Danny often speaks to those students in that program.
In the areas of giving back and volunteerism, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team represents the "best of the best" among more than 50,000 student-athletes participating in the sport at all four-year institutions. The total eclipses the 106 nominees achieved last season, demonstrating the continued growth of a platform that is widely recognized as the most prestigious community service award in college football.
