Boggs named to ACC All-Academic Men's Basketball Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Virginia Tech guard Ben Boggs has been named to the ACC All-Academic Men’s Basketball Team, as announced Wednesday by Commissioner John Swofford.

Boggs, a freshman from Roanoke, Va., is one of 12 players named to the team. He is majoring in Human Nutrition, Foods & Exercise at Virginia Tech. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

Duke, Clemson and Virginia all placed two players on this year’s team. Duke’s Brian Zoubek and Virginia’s Jerome Meyinsse were named to the team for the third consecutive season, and Clemson’s Tanner Smith and North Carolina’s Tyler Zeller are repeaters from last year’s All-Academic team.

Boggs has appeared in 24 games in his freshman season for the Hokies. He is averaging 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds in 9.0 minutes of action per game. The Hokies close out the home portion of the 2009-10 regular season tonight, as they host NC State for Senior Night. Tech enters the game 21-7 overall and 8-6 in ACC action.
