Former Hokie earns spot on US Lacrosse team

Blackburg, Va.- US Lacrosse announced it’s 2009-10, 24-player roster on Sunday after holding a two-day tryout at UMBC. After competing with 64 of the nation’s top prospects, former Hokie and 2009 Virginia Tech graduate Rachel Culp earned a spot on this year’s team. Culp becomes just the second Hokie to play on the US Lacrosse team; Natasha Fuchs earned a spot in 2005. Three ACC schools were represented on this year’s roster, while North Carolina led every other team, putting three players on the squad.

Culp had an outstanding career as a Hokie having played in 60 games, starting 46 of them. The Kent, Ohio native had an impressive senior year that took her to the top of Tech’s record books and the ACC. Culp finished her career with 119 goals, good for second all-time at Tech. In her senior season Culp propelled herself to the top of Tech’s single season charts and now sits third all-time for goals in a season (54) and second for point in a season (70), while she also ranked second in the ACC in points per game at the end of the 2009 season. Culp earned numerous accolades throughout her career as she was a member of the All-ACC team as a senior and named team MVP that same year, as well as Co-MVP as a junior. Culp was also a standout performer in the classroom; earning ACC All-Academic team honors three of her four years at Tech.

The US Lacrosse team will makes its debut on Sunday, Oct. 11 at it’s annual US Lacrosse Stars and Stripes event in Alexandria, Va. For more information on this year’s US Lacrosse team and the full release and roster, visit http://www.laxpower.com/laxnews/news.php?story=15894
