Hokies challenge students to wiffleball

BLACKSBURG, Va. – In an effort to promote its program and to help the student body get to know its players, the Virginia Tech baseball team has announced plans for the first-ever Hokieball Wiffleball Tournament, a 16-team, single elimination tournament to be held on campus Sunday, Sept. 20.

Each team will consist of four Virginia Tech students (male or female) and two players from the Hokie baseball squad who will be randomly assigned to each team. All games will be played on campus at the Eggleston and Miles Quads, with each contest lasting six innings and roughly 45 minutes. Check-in will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 20 at the Eggleston Quad, and a valid Virginia Tech student ID must be presented to play. The tournament will be run with the rules used by the VT Wiffleball Club, which are available at vtwiffleball.com.

A $40 per team registration fee (or $10 per person) is required to secure a spot in the tournament, and each student who participates will receive a sub for lunch, Gatorade/water and a t-shirt. In addition, the winning team will be invited to throw out the first pitch at a Virginia Tech baseball game in the spring. Students without teammates who still wish to participate may sign up as individuals, and will then be paired with other individuals who are without a team.

There are only 16 team spots available and the bracket will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, so students are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. To download a registration form, click here. To register or to get more information, contact Nick Beauchamp at nbeach07@vt.edu.
