BERLIN, Germany – Rising senior Yavgeniy Olhovsky cleared 17-08.75 en route to a 16th-place finish in the prelims of the pole vault at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany on Thursday.
Olhovsky, competing for his native Israel, vaulted 17-02.75 and 17-08.75 in the second attempt at both heights, before coming up short at the 18-02.50 mark. The Petah-Tivka, Israel native placed 16th in Group A of the competition. The top eight qualified for the finals in the event.
At the Israel Athletics Championships in Jeruaselm, Olhovsky claimed the national championship in the pole vault, beating legendary Israeli pole vaulter Alex Averbukh, to earn a bid to the World Championships. Olhovsky cleared 17-10.75 at the meet.
