BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s track and field squad has received 2009 Division I All-Academic team honors the, U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Wednesday.
Tech earned a spot among the 130 Division I programs on the list, and led all ACC schools with a team cumulative grade point average of 3.30. Seven Hokie women earned individual All-Academic honors on Monday. Rising seniors Kristi Castlin, Asia Washington and Lisa Birnbaum, along with rising juniors Kelly Phillips, Catilin Thornley and rising sophomore Abby Schaffer all garnered All-Academic accolades. Outgoing senior Natalie Sherbak also earned the academic honor.
To be nominated for the all-academic team award, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative grade point average.
