BLACKSBURG, Va. - Virginia Tech redshirt junior Steve Domecus was named to the University Division All-State Baseball second team on Monday, as chosen in a vote by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
With the selection, Domecus becomes the second Hokie to be honored by the state's media relations professionals since 2005, joining Matt Hacker from 2008.
The all-state nod came nearly two months after Domecus was voted to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference second team, when he became the first Hokie baseball player to be named to an All-ACC team in Tech’s five seasons in the league.
Domecus enjoyed a successful first season in Blacksburg after transferring from Moorpark Junior College in Moorpark, Calif., finishing the year with a .406 batting average to win the ACC’s regular season batting title. He was the first Hokie to hit over .400 over the course of a season since Matt Griswold hit .408 in 1997.
The Novato, Calif., native also added 37 runs scored, 42 runs driven in, 11 doubles, four home runs, six stolen bases and 16 hit-by-pitches. He started 19 games in left field, 10 at catcher and eight at designated hitter.
