BLACKSBURG, Va. - Sophomore hammer thrower Dorotea Habazin has been named the Southeast Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year, the United States Track and Field Coaches Association announced on Monday.
Habazin won the hammer throw at the NCAA East Regional with a toss of 207-11 on May 29, defeating the runner-up finisher by over 14 feet. The Zagreb, Croatia native also won the ACC hammer throw title and broke her own school record in the event with a toss of 216-06 at the Georgia Tech Invite earlier this year.
Habazin and the rest of the Virginia Tech track and field squads are set to compete in the NCAA Championships this week in Fayetteville, Ark. The women's hammer throw preliminary round is scheduled for 1 p.m., on Wednesday. Results will be available on hokiesports.com following the conclusion of each day's events.
