Three Hokies earn VaSID honors

FARMVILLE, Va. - Three Virginia Tech men’s basketball players have been named to the 2009 VaSID University Division All-State Men’s Basketball Team, in voting by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID).

A.D. Vassallo, a senior guard/forward from Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, was named to the first team for the second consecutive season. He led the Hokies in scoring, with 19.1 points per game and set a new school record with 267 career three-point field goals. He completed his Virginia Tech career fifth in career scoring and he was named third-team All-ACC.

Malcolm Delaney, a sophomore guard from Baltimore, Md., was named to the VaSID second team. He was second on the team in scoring, at 18.1 points per game and recorded a career-high 115 assists. He was a third team All-ACC selection.

Jeff Allen, a sophomore forward from Washington, D.C., received an honorable mention to the VaSID team for the second time in as many years. He was third on the team in scoring, at 13.7 ppg and led the team in rebounding, blocked shots and steals.

The major award winners by VaSID are Brad Greenberg of Radford, who was named Coach of the Year, Eric Maynor of VCU, who was named the Player of the Year and Seth Curry of Liberty, who was named the Rookie of the Year.
