AUGUSTA, Ga. – Virginia Tech shot a three-round total of 862 and finished in ninth place at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational at the par-72, 7,161-yard Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., on Sunday afternoon. The Hokies shot even-par 288 and two-under-par 286 on Saturday and shot even-par 288 on Sunday.
Senior Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.) and redshirt junior Matt Boyd (Sugar Land, Texas) led the Hokies with three-round totals of two-under-par 214 and tied for 31st place. They finished 12 strokes behind medalist Taylor Floyd of Augusta State. Boyd's two-under-par 70 was the Hokies' low round of Sunday and tied for the low of the tournament for Tech.
Sophomore Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.) tied for 47th at 218. Redshirt senior Will Oldham (Spartanburg, S.C.) tied for 56th at 219 and sophomore Garland Green (Tazewell, Va.) tied for 81st at 226.
Host Augusta State won the tournament with a three-round total of 36-under-par 828, 13 strokes better than runner-up Chattanooga. Kent State was third at 843, UCF and Coastal Carolina tied for fourth at 849 and Duke was sixth at 853. Tennessee was seventh at 859 and Georgia State was eighth at 860, two strokes ahead of the Hokies. USC-Aiken finished 10th at 864. In all, 17 teams competed in the event.
The Hokies return to action next weekend, as they play in the River Landing Intercollegiate in Wallace, N.C., on Friday and Saturday.
