Golfers set to tee off in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Virginia Tech will tee off Saturday morning at the Administaff Augusta State Invitational at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

The Hokies will begin play at 8:30 a.m. from the championship tees in a shotgun start, grouped with Minnesota and Houston. The tournament features 17 teams, including three Atlantic Coast Conference squads. Eight of the top 50 teams in the nation, according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, are competing in the event. The Hokies are ranked 65th in the poll.

Tech will be led by senior Drew Weaver (High Point, N.C.) who is currently ranked 31st nationally in both the Golfweek/Sagarin and Golfstat.com rankings. He will be joined by sophomore Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Va.), redshirt senior Will Oldham (Spartanburg, S.C.), sophomore Garland Green (Tazewell. Va.) and redshirt junior Matt Boyd (Sugar Land, Texas) in the Virginia Tech line-up.

The tournament returns to Forest Hills, following a three-year run at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Evans, Ga. This is the 28th time in the 31-year history of the event that the tournament has been played on the Donald Ross-designed layout at Forest Hills.

The two-day, 54-hole event will begin with 36 holes of competition on Saturday, followed by the final round on Sunday. Live stats are available on hokiesports.com and golfstat.com.
