Harrison wins ACC Women's Performer of the Year

BLACKSBURG, Va.Virginia Tech track and field garnered two conference awards, as junior Queen Harrison received Women’s Track and Field Performer of the Year, while freshman Will Mulherin shared Men’s Freshman of the Year honors, the ACC announced on Thursday.

Harrison won both the women’s 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend in Coral Gables, Fla. The Richmond, Va., native clocked a 12.98 in the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles, and ran a 13.14 to win the conference title in the event. In the 400-meter hurdles, Harrison took first with a time of 56.03, after posting a time of 58.68 in the prelims.

On the men’s side, Mulherin captured the 5,000-meter run ACC outdoor crown en route to the conference honor. The Yorktown, Va., native earned a time of 14:15.54 to edge Virginia’s Ryan Collins in the race. Mulherin split the award with Florida State sprinter Maurice Mitchell.

The Hokie women tallied 127 points for second place at the ACC meet, while the Tech men garnered 130 points for third. The Hokies totaled 11 individual champions at the meet.

Tech will take this weekend off before traveling to Lynchburg, Va., for the Liberty Invitational on April 30, and to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Invitational on May 2. Results will be available on hokiesports.com, following the conclusion of both meets.
