BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s lacrosse team enters the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament as the fifth overall seed after completing the regular season with a 1-4 league record and a 7-9 overall mark. The Hokies face fourth-seeded Virginia in the first match of the quarterfinals on Thursday, Apr. 23, at 1 p.m. For the first time in program history, Tech will serve as host for the 2009 ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championships on April 23, 24 and 26.
The Hokies open the tournament against defending ACC Champion UVa at Thompson Field on Thursday afternoon, followed immediately by third-seeded Duke taking on six-seed Boston College in the second quarterfinal match at 3:30 p.m.
Maryland secured the top seed after completing an undefeated regular season and along with No. 2 seed North Carolina, the Terrapins received a bye through the opening round. The winner of the match between Tech and UVa will face No. 1 seed Maryland at 4 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 24. No. 2 seed UNC begins its tournament run against the winner of the BC/Duke match in Friday’s second semifinal contest scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
The two teams that advance past the semifinal round will square off on Sunday, Apr. 26, at 1 p.m. with the ACC Championship and automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
Tickets will be available for purchase prior to and during each game. Prices range from $10 for adult all-session passes, $5 for student/child all-session passes, $5 for adult individual session tickets and $3 for student/child individual session tickets.
