BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s and women’s cross country programs both received 2008 NCAA Division I All-Academic Team honors, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Thursday.
The Hokie men earned the all-academic squad award, after compiling a team cumulative grade point average of 3.13, while the Tech women received the accolade with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.31. Both Hokie squads placed seventh at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet, as the Tech men and women tallied 197 and 226 points, respectively.
The Atlantic Coast Conference placed 13 teams total on the all-academic team list, five on the men’s side and eight on the women’s list. The Hokies are one of five ACC programs to have both the men’s and women’s programs garner the all-academic team honor.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must have competed in, and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative grade point average.
