Tech concludes first day of diving at the NCAA Zone B qualifier

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Virginia Tech divers concluded their first day of competition at the 2009 NCAA Zone B qualifier in Knoxville, Tenn. The men took part in the 1-meter dive, while the women competed in the 3-meter event.

In the 1-meter event, junior Mikey McDonald garnered a fifth-place showing in the event. McDonald scored 662.50 after posting an opening-round score of 335.10. After placing in the top-five in the event, the junior could qualify for the NCAA Championships for the second time in his career. Sophomore Daniel Martin posted a score of 257.20 in the preliminary round, while freshman Trevor Michalak registered a score of 219.35 in his first showing at the event.

Meanwhile, sophomore Sarah Milton had a 228.90 showing for the H2Okie women in the 3-meter dive. Freshmen Cara Murnan posted a score of 199.35 to round up the participants for Tech.

The H2Okie divers will be back in action tomorrow at noon. The men will take part in the 3-meter dive and the women will compete in the 1-meter event. Follow the action live at www.divemeets.com.
