Olhovsky earns Southeast Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech track and field standout junior Yavgeniy Olhovksy was named the NCAA Southeast Region Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year by the United State’s Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Olhovsky is set to compete in the pole vault for the Hokies at the NCAA Track and Field Championships on Friday at 4:30 p.m., in College Station, Texas.

Olhovksy carries the second-highest vault in the country, a school-record clearance of 18-02.50, into the national meet. The Petah-tivka, Israel native captured his first ACC title in the pole vault on Feb. 28, earning a height of 18-00.50. In his five pole vault competitions this season, Olhovsky cleared at least a provisional height in each showing, and achieved two first-place and two runner-up finishes.

The Hokies will kick off their national meet at 4 p.m., on Friday with the women’s mile run, featuring senior Natalie Sherbak, and the women’s weight throw, featuring sophomore Dorotea Habazin. Results will be available on hokiesports.com following the conclusion of each day’s events.
