BLACKSURG, Va. – Three Virginia Tech cross country runners were named to the 2008 All-ACC Academic Men’s Cross Country Team, the conference announced on Wednesday. Senior Phillip Padilla, junior Devin Cornwall and freshman Michael Hammond represented Tech on the squad.
Padilla and Hammond earned academic All-ACC honors for the first time, while Cornwall received academic all-conference accolades for a second time, after garnering a spot on the academic All-ACC team in 2007.
The men’s cross country team finished third at the ACC Championships, its highest finish in the conference meet, with Cornwall taking third. The Hokies placed seventh at the NCAA Southeast Regionals, with Padilla earning all-region honors for the first time in his career.
To be eligible for consideration for academic All-ACC, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
