QUEENS, N.Y. -- St. John’s free throw shooting proved to be the difference in the Red Storm's, 75-62, win over Virginia Tech in the championship game of the St.John’-Chartwells Holiday Classic. The event was played in Carnesecca Arena on the St. John’s campus.The Hokies fell to 7-4 on the year while the Red Storm improved to 11-1 on the year.
The Red Storm connnected on 21-of-30 from the charity stripe while the Hokies were 9-of-13.
Lindsey Biggs led the Hokies with 15 points followed Utahye Drye with nine points. Nikki Davis, Porchia Hadley and Alyssa Fenyn each added eight points. Biggs and Fenyn were named to the all-tournament team.
Tech will return to action on Tues., Dec. 29, when the Hokies face NJIT in the opening round of the Hilton Garden Classic in Cassell Coliseum. Charlotte takes on Central Connecticut State in the first game at 5 p.m.
