BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech head men’s basketball coach Seth Greenberg will be inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame on April 18, 2010. He is one of seven inductees to be honored in the spring.
Greenberg will join former professional football player and wrestler Bill Goldberg, judo champion Rusty Kanokogi, Olympic swimmer Jason Lezak, golfer Richard Siderowf, Achilles Track Club founder Dick Traum and former NFL lineman Alan Veingrad as the Class of 2010.
The 18th annual induction ceremony will take place on April 18, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Suffolk (N.Y.) Y Jewish Community Center in Commack, N.Y.
“I am honored and humbled to be inducted into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame; to be in the company of Red Auerbach, Red Holtzman, Sandy Koufax and all the other Jewish sports icons,” Greenberg said. “This is indeed an honor.”
The National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is dedicated to honoring Jewish sports figures who have distinguished themselves in the field of sports. The objective is to foster Jewish identity through athletics. The Jewish Sports Hall of Fame is located at the Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center, with plaques honoring those inducted on permanent display.
“Our inductees and honorees truly exemplify what the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame is all about,” Lynne Kramer, Esq., Cahirman of the Hall of Fame said. “In their own way, each one of them have overcome adversities, challenged stereotypes and blazed a trail for others to follow. We hope by honoring these Jewish men and women for their accomplishments, we can show young Jews that there are no limits.”
