BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s track and field squad is ranked seventh in the 2009 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I women’s indoor track and field preseason rankings, the organization announced on Thursday.
The Hokies earned 82.42 points in the preseason poll, after finishing 10th in the final indoor poll of 2008. Tech returns several scorers from last year’s squad, including juniors Kristi Castlin and Queen Harrison, who finished second and third, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2008 NCAA Indoor National Championships.
Tech is one of four ACC schools ranked in the poll. Florida State is ranked the highest among ACC schools at fifth. North Carolina and Miami are ranked 18th and 20th, respectively. Texas A&M tops the poll with 149.39 points.
