BLACKSBURG, Va.- Virginia Tech senior swimmer Sara Smith was tabbed ACC Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference this afternoon. Smith helped lead the 23rd-ranked H2Okie women’s squad to victories over ACC foe Georgia Tech and UNC Wilmington.
Smith went out in style in her final meet in Blacksburg, on a day in which her and her fellow seniors were honored. The senior engraved her name in the Atlantic Coast Conference; Virginia Tech and War Memorial Pool record books in the 50 free, posting a time of 22.18.
A native of McGaheysville, Va., Smith also took home first place in the 100 free, touching in with a time of 50.06 and competed on the record-breaking 200-medley relay team along with the 400 free relay squad.
Smith and the H20kies will be back in action when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., to take on the Panthers on Jan. 31. Diving action will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the swimmers taking the pool at noon.
