BLACKSBURG, VA – The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced the final schedule for the 2009 women’s lacrosse season on Monday. This season’s schedule pits the Hokies against seven teams that finished last season ranked in the top 25 by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association and four 2008 NCAA participants.
Tech opens the season with a road trip to Philadelphia to take on the Drexel Dragons on Feb. 14. The Hokies then travel to nearby Charlottesville, Va., for the ACC opener against Virginia.
Virginia Tech hosts its first home game on Feb. 21, welcoming James Madison for a non-conference tilt before hitting the road again to face William and Mary on Feb. 25. The Hokies return to Blacksburg for a three-game homestand that includes non-conference matches against George Mason on Feb. 28, Vanderbilt on March 3 and George Washington on March 8.
Tech travels to Davidson on March 10, before jumping back into ACC action against Boston College on March 14, and at Duke on March 18. The Hokies travel to Louisville for a March 21 contest against the Cardinals, then welcome North Carolina on March 25.
The Hokies will hold four consecutive non-conference games, against Old Dominion on March 28, at American on April 4, against Longwood on April 7 and at Oregon on April 11, before concluding the regular season against ACC rival Maryland on April 18.
In addition, Tech will host the 2009 ACC Tournament, which will be held from April 23-26 at Thompson Field.
