Raines suffers foot fracture

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech post player Cadarian Raines will have surgery on a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot and is expected to be sidelined from 8-10 weeks.

Raines, a freshman from Petersburg, Va., suffered the injury on Tuesday and will undergo surgery on Thursday morning at Montgomery Regional Hospital by Dr. Marc Siegel.

“I am surely disappointed for Cadarian,” head coach Seth Greenberg said. “This is a minor setback in the big picture. I have total confidence in our medical staff and Cadarian’s work ethic. We won’t rush him back; the most important thing is Cadarian’s health. We are working in terms of the big picture.”

The Hokies open practice for the 2009-10 season on Friday, Oct. 16, and will open the 2009-10 regular season against Brown in the first round of the Philly Hoop Group Classic at 7 p.m., in Cassell Coliseum on Nov. 15.
