GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference and Commissioner John D. Swofford announced the 2009 All-ACC Academic Baseball Team on Thursday, and three Hokies – Mike Kaminski, Ben Rowen and Michael Seaborn – were named to the team for the first time in their respective careers.
Kaminski, a sociology major from Ventura, Calif., played in all 53 games for the Hokies this season, starting 40 of them. The junior right fielder batted .340 with 11 doubles, six home runs, 38 RBIs and 41 runs scored in his debut season at Tech, which came after transferring from Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Rowen also made his debut as a junior after transferring, coming to Blacksburg following two seasons at Los Angeles Harbor College in Wilmington, Calif. The 6-foot-3, submarine-throwing relief pitcher appeared in a team-high 30 games on the mound for the Hokies, recording a 4-2 record with a team-high four saves. The sociology major from Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif., struck out 34 batters, while walking just nine, in 34.2 innings pitched.
Seaborn completed his redshirt sophomore season with an even .300 batting average after starting a combined 47 games and second and third base. The Atlanta, Ga., native, who is majoring in accounting, tied for second on the team with seven home runs, while also adding eight doubles, 28 RBIs and 33 runs scored.
To be eligible for consideration for the team, a student-athlete must have earned at least a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained at least a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
