FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- Senior Brittany Pryor set a school record to move on to the women’s discus throw finals, and juniors Kristi Castlin and Asia Washington also advanced in their respective events in the second day of the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
Pryor, already qualified for the finals of the women’s hammer throw, continued her strong NCAA Championships by advancing to the finals of the women’s discus throw in school-record fashion. The Niagara Falls, N.Y., native broke her own school record in the event, launching a career-best 172-10 for the sixth-best mark in the field. The effort surpassed the former school-record of 171-01, set by Pryor at the NCAA East Regional on May 29.
In sprints action, Castlin clocked a 13.21 in the women’s 100-meter hurdles to garner a spot in the semifinals of the race tomorrow. Washington secured a spot in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.96. Washington is going for her second All-America honor in her career, and first in the 400-meter hurdles.
Senior Natalie Sherbak competed, but did not finish in the women’s 10,000-meter run, pulling out at the 7k mark.
The NCAA Championships continue tomorrow, with the first Hokie event coming at 11 a.m., as sophomore Dorotea Habazin and Pryor will compete in the women’s hammer throw. Results will be available on hokiesports.com following the conclusion of the day’s events.
