BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Virginia Tech men's track and field staff is pleased to announce the signing of hammer thrower Alexander Ziegler, on Thursday. Ziegler is from Stuttgart, Germany and will join the Hokies next fall.
Ziegler recorded a ninth-place finish in the hammer throw at the 2006 World Junior Championships. He currently owns a personal best of 70.42 meters (231'0") achieved in 2008, and is regarded as one of Germany's top young throwers.
"Alexander comes highly recommended to our program," Associate Head Track and Field Greg Jack said. "Alexander will be able to come in and immediately compete at the highest level which will contribute to our goal of improving our team place at the Conference and National Championships."
Ziegler just recently competed at Germany's Winter Cup Challenge in Kienbaum, Germany and recorded a season-opening mark of 68.16 meters (223'6").
