BLACKSBURG, Va. – The ACC Track and Field Championships kicked off on Thursday in the Rector Field House at Blacksburg, Va., with the heptathlon and the pentathlon competitions. No Hokies competed on Thursday.
Liane Weber, of Clemson, set a meet-record in the 800-meter run portion of the pentathlon, helping her capture the event title with 4,218 points. Fellow Clemson Tiger Patricia Mamona came in second, followed by NC State’s Mattie Bethea in third. Virginia’s Ayla Smith ran 8.40 in the 60-meter hurdles, and Bethea cleared 5-10.75 in the high jump portion, both ACC meet records in the pentathlon competition.
Ganzalo Barroilhet of Florida State leads the heptathlon with 3,180 points. Barroilhet set an ACC-meet record in the long jump portion of the heptathlon, leaping 23-06.75. Miller Moss of Clemson, and Daniel Keller of North Carolina stand in second and third, respectively.
The Hokies will start their ACC Championships on Friday, beginning with sophomore Dorotea Habazin in the women’s weight throw at 1 p.m. Results will be available on hokiesports.com following the conclusion of the day’s events.
