Jeff Allen suspended for one game

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Jim Weaver announced on Monday that he has suspended men’s basketball player Jeff Allen for one game following his actions during Saturday night’s game at Maryland. The suspension will be served on Feb. 18, as the Hokies play at Virginia in an ACC contest.

Weaver issued the following statement:

Jeff Allen’s gesture after he fouled out was inappropriate and unacceptable and not reflective of our Hokies Respect Campaign.”

Men’s basketball coach Seth Greenberg has issued the following statement:

“I was extremely disappointed in Jeff Allen’s actions as he was leaving the court at the University of Maryland on Saturday night. I, in no way, condone his behavior and will deal with it appropriately. Jeff knows better and is extremely remorseful about the incident and apologizes for his actions.”

Allen issued the following apology:

“I would like to apologize to all that were offended by my actions this past weekend. I know that type of behavior is unacceptable. It was a lapse in judgment during the heat of the moment.”

Weaver has discussed the circumstances surrounding Saturday’s incident with University of Maryland Director of Athletics Debbie Yow.

With the issuance of these statements, there will be no further comment on this matter by Virginia Tech.
