CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Nicolas Delgado de Robles and Luka Somen will play for the A-1 doubles title Sunday at UVa Ranked Plus One Invitational. Tech will also have three players still active in their respective singles consolation as well on Sunday. The event was scheduled to be played at the Snyder Tennis Center on the University of Virginia campus but inclement weather has forced the event indoors at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
Delgado (Sr., Madrid, Spain)/Somen (Fr., Karlovac, Croatia) defeated ACC rivals Kiril Dimitrov/Alain Michel (Duke), 8-3, in the Saturday morning semifinals and will No. 33 Houston Barrick/Sanam Singh (Virginia) in the 9 a.m. finals. In A-3 doubles, the Commonwealth duo of Graber (VT)/Sunderland (UVa) fell, 8-6, to Arnould/Wletsoka (Duke) in the A-3 consolation and will play their final match Sunday.
Delgado de Robles, ranked No. 75 nationally dropped his A-1 quarterfinal, 6-2, 7-5, versus Drew Courtney (Virginia), then dropped at 6-2, 6-2, consolation match to No. 10 John-Patrick Smith (Tennessee). Luka Somen (Fr., Karlovac, Croatia) lost to No. 32 Jaak Poldman (Southern Cal), 6-2, 6-2, in the A-1 consolation, then suffered a 7-6 (8), 6-0, loss Daniel Nguyen (Southern Cal).
In A-2 singles, Pedro Graber (Jr., Santiago, Chile) pulled out a 6-7 (5), 7-6 (4), 1-0 (6) win over Davey Sandgren (Tennessee) in the consolation round then defeated Daniel Gilmer (Southern Cal), 6-1, 6-1.
The event concludes on Sunday with finals in all brackets.
