BLACKSBURG, Va.- After winning her first race of the season on Sept. 19, senior Tasmin Fanning was named ACC Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
The 2007 cross country All-American took first place in the 4.6k race, setting a new Virginia Tech Cross Country Course record with a time of 15:53.3. Fanning won the race by almost 30 seconds.
“It was a good effort. It was great being out on the course and running with the team,” Fanning said. “It is definitely a stepping stone in the long season. We will see how things progress.”
Friday’s run was Fanning’s second and final meet on the VT Cross Country Course in her career. The Western Albermarle High School alum finished her career undefeated at the course, winning the Virginia Tech Invitational as a freshman in 2005.
Fanning’s effort helped the Hokies to a runner-up finish behind Florida State. The Charlottesville, Va., native’s sister, redshirt senior Jessica Fanning placed fourth and senior Erin Reddan crossed the finish line in ninth. Former Hokie tennis player Natalie Kretzer and sophomore Jessica Trapeni earned 11th and 16th respectively to round out the team scoring.
The Virginia Tech cross country squads will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 3 at the Highland Duel in Boone, N.C.
