BLACKSBURG, Va. - Following a record-breaking freshman campaign, sophomore Felicia Willoughby was named preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference, the ACC announced on Aug. 12. The Hokies were picked to finish eighth as a team in the ACC.
Willoughby had one of the best freshman seasons in school history in 2007. The Pleasanton, Calif., native set single-season and freshman records for total blocks (172) and block assists (143), and led the ACC with 1.51 blocks per game. The strong numbers helped Willoughby win ACC, AVCA East Region and Virginia Sports Information Director's Freshman of the Year honors.
Clemson led all ACC schools with four members earning preseason All-ACC accolades. Duke, Georgia Tech, Florida State and Virginia all had two selections, and five other schools claimed one.
The ACC picked Tech to finish eighth in the conference ahead of Miami, Wake Forest, Boston College and NC State. Clemson was projected to win the conference with 11 first-place votes, while Georgia Tech, which was predicted to finish runner-up in the conference, received one first-place vote.
